About Us
About us
At Highlands Christian Grammar School, children are viewed as a gift from God. They have been created in His likeness with unique gifts and abilities. We strive to create an environment where students feel loved and accepted and can learn and develop socially, cognitively, physically and spiritually.
Student Focused – Teacher Directed
We believe that students learn best in an environment where they feel valued, safe, and encouraged. Our school fosters curiosity, collaboration, and respect, providing each student with opportunities to develop their strengths and navigate challenges in a caring and inclusive community.
Our teaching is student-centered and teacher-directed, combining expert guidance with opportunities for students to think critically, ask questions, and explore new knowledge. We focus on developing essential literacy and numeracy skills while also promoting creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and reflection.
Curricula
The school follows both the Australian and Papua New Guinean curricula. Australian PAT tests are administered to continually assess whether the school’s level aligns with that of Australian schools. IXL, which is an online practice platform for English and mathematics, helps our students ensure an international standard by providing structured practice, clear learning objectives, and progress tracking aligned with widely used curricula. The school maintains an academic standard, equivalent to international levels.
Throughout the year
Chapel
The whole school gathers every Tuesday morning for Chapel. The classes take turns organizing this joyful gathering, where students come together for singing, prayer, Bible lessons, and learning about the world around us. It is also an opportunity for teachers to share important announcements with the entire school. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Assembly
The whole school gathers every Friday afternoon, with classes taking turns to share what they have learned and worked on during the week. This is a great opportunity for students to build confidence by presenting in front of a large audience. There is a positive atmosphere, with everyone supporting each other and applauding. Occasionally, teachers also present awards. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Special events
We have a number of special events throughout the school year, that we love for you to share in. From Book Week celebration, sports day, independence day celebration to science-math fair, graduation and more.
